ONE bantamweight Muay Thai champion Jonathan Haggerty conquered a second sport at ONE Fight Night 16 on Friday — and the Brit now has a third title in his sights.

Haggerty claimed kickboxing gold against MMA champ Fabricio Andrade in the main event on streaming platform Prime Video, with the action-packed fight playing out at the famed Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

“The General” sealed the deal in the second round, when he began teeing off on Andrade, who soon found himself under a constant barrage of strikes. For a moment, it appeared the Brazilian had recovered, but a right hand dropped him a short time later — and he stumbled on his way up. That was enough for the ref to wave off the fight, giving Haggerty the knockout victory, and more importantly, a second title in ONE Championship.

After the bout, Haggerty called for a third, as he now has his sights set on Andrade’s mixed martial arts championship. The decorated striker has long been asked about a crossover to MMA, and it appears the time is now.

“Fabricio, I want your MMA belt,” he exclaimed, shortly before learning that he had won not one but two $50,000 Performance bonuses with the win.

“I’m feeling amazing. You can’t beat this feeling Mitch,” Haggerty told ONE Championship broadcaster Mitch Chilson following the win. “That’s what I’m doing this for.” Later, the 26-year old added that “Through dedication and hard work, anything is possible.”

A third title certainly is possible, but it won’t be easy. Current ONE atomweight champ Stamp Fairtex has won titles in Muay Thai, Kickboxing, and MMA — but she was not able to hold all three simultaneously. Doing that would be a historic first, if Jonathan Haggerty can pull it off in the near future. If it’s not in the cards, of course, there are no shortage of contenders for his Muay Thai and now kickboxing belts.

Official Result: Jonathan Haggerty def. Fabricio Andrade by KO, Round 2, 1:57 — for the ONE bantamweight kickboxing championship

Knockout artists Thanh Le and Ilya Freymanov faced off in the main event of ONE Fight Night 15 in Bangkok, Thailand for the ONE interim featherweight championship in MMA.

Thanh Le had previously won the undisputed belt and defended it once before losing it to Tang Kai last year. The Russian, Freymanov, had won both of his ONE Championship fights by finish leading into his first title opportunity with the promotion. It looked like a war on paper but Thanh Le surprised everyone when he submitted his opponent in the first round, only his second career submission.

Thanh Le came out swinging hard from the opening bell but got taken down early on. However he was able to invert on the leg of Freymanov and chase a heel hook. It appeared that Freymanov had escaped at one point but Le kept hunting the submission up against the ropes and suddenly the fight was over, Ilya had tapped.

Thanh Le got his hand raised to regain a piece of his title, but would need to rematch Tang Kai to regain the undisputed status that he once held. In the post-fight interview he got awarded a $50,000 bonus for his finish.

The champion and former foe of Le, Tang Kai, then came into the ring so the fighters could face off. Le shook his hand and gave him a quick, brotherly hug, showing no animosity between then. Tang Kai said, through his Chinese translator, that he was impressed with Thanh but would knock him out in the rematch. Le threw shade his way by suggesting that Kai backed away too much and avoided engagements in their last fight before they faced off again.

Official Result: Thanh Le def. Ilya Freymanov by Submission (heel hook) Round 1, 1:02

Undefeated Italian-Canadian fighter Jon Di Bella successfully made the first defense of his strawweight kickboxing title at ONE Fight Night 15 when he faced Danial ‘Mini T’ Williams at the legendary Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

Williams moved down in weight after losing to one of the best strikers in the world, Superlek Kiatmuu9, getting a title shot in his strawweight debut. Meanwhile the champ, Di Bella, had been inactive since winning his belt a year earlier against Pemian Zhang due to a dispute with ONE Championship boss Chatri Sidyodtong. With that relationship mended he was able to compete in the co-main event of this card.

They came out swinging from the opening bell, Di Bella pressing forward and kicking the leg of Williams out in an early exchange, making Danial fall to the mat. From his southpaw stance, Di Bella was able to kick the inside of the lead leg of Williams, buckling his leg several more times. A straight left hand from Jon hurt his challenger one minute in, but ‘Mini T’ recovered after staggering against the ropes briefly. His left kept finding the mark and he began to mix in body work after that, cruising to the end of a dominant first round for the champion.

Di Bella came out strong again in round two but Danial did not back down whatsoever, coming forward and landing two good right hands thirty seconds into round two. A straight left hand from Jon sat down Williams right after that but he stood back up immediately; the referee did not call a ten-count for some reason even though his hand and butt clearly hit the canvas due to the punch. Danial Williams began to switch to southpaw, likely covering for his already beaten up left calf. The challenger began to come back with his own leg kicks but Di Bella answered even stronger. Di Bella used a collar tie – illegal in kickboxing – to land a knee and got cautioned by the referee for it right before the end of the round.

The third round was more of the same. Danial Williams landed some strikes but never seemed able to take any control over the action in the fight. He had trouble breaking past the high guard of the champ, only really landing clean when he threw leg kicks, which did begin to redden the right leg of Di Bella. Still, Jon seemed to take the third round, putting him up 30-27 most likely.

The championship rounds began with Williams stepping up the pace even more after his corner told him how much he is down. He got through with some of his strikes, but Di Bella was still able to keep control and land more. A few knees in close were the best strikes from Williams in the fourth round. The boxing from Di Bella continued to be on point, though this was probably the challenger’s best round in the fight, offensively speaking. A leg kick from the champion put ‘Mini T’ to a knee in the last five seconds of the round.

Williams needed a finish going into the final round of the bout, having only a badly bruised leg on his foe’s right leg to show for his efforts through four rounds. Di Bella was more cautious and precise in the final round, he had gone away from the leg kicks in large part by this point, but his boxing was clean as ever. The fast hands, body work, and counter-striking let him cruise through the fifth round. Jon Di Bella closed the fight out with a spinning kick to the head of Williams, which the challenger somehow ate, shortly before the bell.

When the judges’ scorecards were read it was no surprise that Jonathan Di Bella was awarded the unanimous decision, earning his first ever title defense and extending his kickboxing record to 12-0.

Official Result: Jon Di Bella def. Danial Williams by Unanimous Decision

ONE Championship returned to the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok and returned to Amazon Prime Video with Friday night’s ONE Fight Night 15: Le vs. Freymanov.

Taking place Saturday locally in Thailand, the second of back-to-back Lumpinee cards featured an interim featherweight championship fight as its main event. That bout, with current ONE featherweight champ Tang Kai out of action for over a year, saw Thanh Le, the man who lost the title to Kai, taking on #3-ranked contender Ilya Freymanov.

Russia’s Freymanov had won his last five, including a victory over ex-champ Martin Nguyen. Le had not competed since losing his title, but had won five straight himself before that setback, with victories over Nguyen and BJJ star Garry Tonon.

Le had twice been passed over the by UFC, once as part of The Ultimate Fighter in 2015, and again after picking up a win on the Contender Series in 2017, despite landing a head kick finish.

In the co-main event, Italian-Canadian Jonathan Di Bella looked to make the first defense of his strawweight kickboxing world title, as he took on Danial Williams.
