The new Bellator welterweight champion Jason Jackson took a minute to reflect on what it means now that he’s won a title for himself and his home country of Jamaica.

“It just makes all the non-believers into believers. And I have a belt to show my country that yes, Jason Jackson can be champ. Anywhere he goes. And it’s just a matter of time before he becomes the best welterweight on the planet,” Jackson told reporters including Cageside Press at his post-fight scrum.

Jackson finished Yaroslav Amosov at Bellator 301 to claim the title in the main event. Betting lines put the Amosov as a heavy favorite leaving Jackson to play spoiler, and in his post-fight scrum he let them know about it.

“It felt good. On MMA Junkie and ESPN, they got him at what, #1 and #5? So where’s that put me at, #6? So that put me at #5 if I just jumped him. Or #4 or #1. Alright, #1. I like that, I’ll take that,” Jackson said.

Jackson may be the new champion, but he still has to go to work on Monday. He’s one of many professional fighters who hold a day job in addition to their dream job.

“I feel good that I could give all upcoming fighters who just think is just, you know, get up and go to the gym and come home and play game, and find excuse not to be in (the) gym. I get up and I work and I try to find every little way possible to make money,” he said talking about not making excuses and taking fights regardless of pay.

“I just want to make everybody a believer in that. Hard work always pays off.”

Just minutes removed from his title victory Jackson still wasn’t sure it was even real.

“Not yet, it hasn’t set in. Like I said, every man has a dream, and everyone has a nightmare,” Jackson said.

And I was his nightmare.”

The UFC returned to its stronghold at the Apex in Las Vegas for UFC Vegas 82 on Saturday, with middleweights Brendan Allen and Paul Craig in the main event.

It’s somewhat strange to both write and read that sentence, given Craig was so well-known as a light heavyweight throughout his UFC run. But having made the move to middleweight, Craig had already been earning dividends, and landed in his first-ever main event for the UFC against Allen, a former LFA champ.

“All In” Allen isn’t one to talk trash or dazzle anyone outside the cage, but inside the octagon, his skill, especially on the ground, has proven sublime. Five straight wins at 185, and four of those by submission (all four rear-naked chokes) show exactly what Brendan Allen is about.

Of course, Paul Craig has been no slouch on the ground either over the years. Making for a very promising match-up atop UFC Vegas 82.

In the co-main event, meanwhile, Australian welterweight Jake Matthews took on undefeated Brazilian standout Michael Morales.

Following UFC Vegas 82 on Saturday, November 18, 2023, tune in for the post-fight press conference to stay on top of all the latest developments. A live stream of the affair is available in the embed above.

With a cloud of uncertainly hovering over the promotion, Bellator MMA returned to Chicago, IL on Friday night for Bellator 301 — with two title fights and the second bout of its ongoing lightweight grand prix on the card.

A big night even with the questions about the promotion’s future, especially given the winner of Patricky Pitbull and Alexander Shabliy would in theory be moving on to the lightweight grand prix final to face… well, possibly Brent Primus, given rumors he was back in the tournament following Usman Nurmagomedov’s positive drug test.

Headlining Bellator 301 was undefeated welterweight Yaroslav Amosov, taking on top contender Jason Jackson. Amosov entered the fight 27-0, with almost certainly the best record among active fighters regardless of promotion.

Arguably the best two bantamweights on the planet, meanwhile, faced off in a title unification bout when interim champ Patchy Mix took on Sergio Pettis, who was coming in off a defense of his title against Patricio Pitbull.

Yaroslav Amosov and Jason Jackson throw down for Bellator MMA’s welterweight title at Bellator 301 this Friday in Chicago, capping off what is expected to be the final event of 2023 for the promotion.

What the future holds for Bellator is anybody’s guess right now. For months, talk of a sale has swirled, ever since the promotion drew a solid million viewer haul for Fedor Emelianenko’s retirement on CBS — then couldn’t seem to get invited back.

With the PFL among the potential suitors, there is still hope for Bellator, long the mixed martial art’s number two promotion. And while the shadow of that uncertain future no doubt casts itself over Friday’s card, there are plenty of fun fights to be found.

What is expected to be the final Bellator MMA event of 2023 goes down Friday in the “Windy City” of Chicago, IL, with Bellator 301 headlined by a pair of title fights.

Questions about the promotion’s future abound, and there is a chance it’s the last time we see a Bellator card unfold. But until that is official, with the promotion confirmed to be on the auction block, it’s business as usual, with welterweight champ Yaroslav Amosov leading the way in Chicago.

The Ukrainian champion will face off with Jason “The Ass-Kicking Machine” Jackson in Friday’s main event at the Wintrust Arena. Jackson, 33, has won six straight fights to land himself a shot at gold, with victories over the likes of Benson Henderson, Douglas Lima, Paul Daley and others.

In the Bellator 301 co-main event, meanwhile, Sergio Pettis and Patchy Mix were set to unify the Bellator MMA bantamweight championship. Given their pedigree, there was an argument to be made that this fight was not just to determine the best bantamweight in Bellator — Pettis holds the proper title, Mix interim gold — but in the world, as either would certainly be competitive against the likes of Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera.

Ahead of Bellator 301 on Friday, November 17, 2023, the promotion hosted a pre-fight press conference in Chicago. The live stream can be found above and kicks off at 2PM ET.

After their first bout ended in a ‘No-Contest’ UFC light heavyweights Johnny Walker and Magomed Ankalaev are set to run it back at a UFC Fight Night on Jan. 13 in Las Vegas.

Walker’s head coach John Kavanagh revealed the booking during his appearance on ‘The MMA Hour’ on Monday.

Ankalaev and Walker fought at UFC 294 with the assumption that the winner would be on the short list to fight for the vacant UFC title. During the bout an illegal knee absorbed by Walker forced the ref to call a time-out and the doctor checked on the Brazilian.

After short talk with Walker the doctor waved the fight off which caused a wave of confusion from both fighters, their corners, and the fans.

Following the bout Walker said he would’ve been able to fight, but the doctor called the bout off.

Now they get back in the octagon to finish what they started on the first UFC card of 2024.

Ankalaev, ranked 2nd in the division, will take his 11-fight win streak into Las Vegas in January looking to solidify a title shot. He previously fought Jan Blachowicz to a draw, a title fight in itself at UFC 282, before the no-contest against Walker.

Walker, ranked 7th in the division, will take his own 3-fight win streak looking to take Ankalaev’s spot in the rankings and a possible title shot.
