10 Heavyweight Prospects the UFC Should Sign in 2023

Greg “The Viking King” Velasco

29 | 6’2″ | Union Beach, New Jersey, US | 5-0 | 4 Finishes | 2 KO/TKO’s, 2 Submissions | Combined opponents record- 14-11 | Best win- Kevin Sears (9-6)

Velasco isn’t talked about enough one of the better heavyweight prospects. That may be because of his build up in the division, but he’s been on a good run. Last October he won the CFFC heavyweight title. His only loss dating back to an amateur bout was to current UFC fighter Hamdy Abdelwahab.

Not often do you see a heavyweight going four rounds and looking fresh. Velasco did just that to win that CFFC title. In his other four fights, he finished his opponents inside two rounds. Not much on the feet but does at least have good clinch work. Velasco has short arms but still has good wrestling. I’ve been impressed with the jiu-jitsu of the big man. He’s smooth in transition and is always working on submissions. His ground game and cardio can take him a good way in this division. Velasco is booked for the PFL Challenger Series coming up, but he should be on the UFC’s radar as well.
